Easy Salted Caramel Recipe
With only 6 simple ingredients, you can have the most delicious salted caramel sauce! It's perfect for topping desserts like ice cream, cheesecake, brownies and more.
Cook Time 10 minutes mins
- ¾ cup granulated sugar - 150 grams
- 3 tbsp water
- ½ cup heavy cream - 120 ml, at room temperature
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter - cut into pieces
- ¾ tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Place sugar and water in a medium sauce pan. I use my 8-inch stainless steel frying pan and it works great. Use a spatula and stir them together slightly. Heat over high heat. Slowly the mixture will start to bubble. Do not use a spatula or spoon to stir the mixture, but gently swirl the pan once in a while. Keep a close eye on it. After about 5 minutes, you'll see that the color starts to change. When it reaches a deep golden color, take it off the heat immediately (Caramel burns rather quickly so be careful).
While whisking, stir in the cream and continue whisking until combined (when you add the cream, caramel will start to bubble so be careful and keep a little distance).
Add in the butter and stir until melted. Add in salt and vanilla extract and stir to combine.
Allow the caramel to cool down before using. You can transfer it into a jar and keep it in the fridge for up to 7 days.
Caramel will slightly harden in the fridge. So microwave it for 10-20 seconds until it reaches your desired consistency.
